How Glenda Goertzen Became a Writer

Due to chronic asthma, Glenda Goertzen spent much of her childhood in bed, reading and writing stories. She wrote her first novel in grade nine. It was supposed to be a short story assignment, but it raged out of control! Luckily her English teacher was an understanding soul who urged her to enter the science-fiction adventure in a contest. Although it didn't win, the experience encouraged her to write novels throughout high school and beyond. One of those novels was The Prairie Dogs, inspired by stray dogs she had known and by the imaginary adventures of her favourite childhood toys, led by a stuffed poodle named Pooch.

After receiving her B.F.A. in Film and Video, Glenda worked her way through a variety of multi-media positions, from computer graphics artist to producer and writer of CK's Club for Kids for CKTV in Regina. In 1998, Glenda was overwhelmed by a desire to be surrounded by books rather than television screens. She moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to study Library and Information Technology at SIAST. Shortly after launching into her library career, The Prairie Dogs was published. Glenda has been writing books ever since. She now spends her days, at home and at work, surrounded by books.
